Peace! #iranelection

Did these words ban Bahman Farmanara from leaving Iran?

It has been a while that again my anti-depressant pills have lost their potency due to my more frequent usage and my nightly nightmares have returned.

A few nights ago in one of my nightmares I received a telephone call from Mahmoud Reza Khavari who is now in Canada, the conversation follows:

Khavari:  Mr. Farmanara?

Me:  Yes, and you?

Khavari: I am Mahmood Reza Khavari.

Me: Yes, I recognize you, what can I do for you?

Khavari: Mr. Farmanara, do you have the number for Andy [the singer]?

Me: No sir! May I ask why do you need Andy’s number?

Khavari: I just wanted to ask him for how long should we, the beautiful, dance.

Me: Sir, I don’t think even your children consider you beautiful.  In addition to all your debts, you owe 30 million tomans to beauty, even if you hire the best plastic surgeons with all of your money they cannot make you look like Mohammad Reza Golzar.

Khavari: You are telling me these while having a Hitchcock like body? I still have influence back there, and will pass your name to be interrogated.

Me: You can do whatever the heck you want. Anyway, you have the right to laugh at me and other people, but even if I had Andy’s number, I would not have given it to you.

I woke up and immediately called Dr. Jamshid Lotfi who was also woken up by the call.  He told me why I was calling him at this time of the night. I told him what has happened, and he said that he would prescribe new pills the next day.

But when morning came, daily chores in addition to the traffic and rain, prevented me from visiting Dr. Lotfi.

When night came, to avoid the nightmares I was afraid to fall asleep, which made me so tired that I finally fell asleep.

In the nightmare, again, the telephone rang and I answered the call with fear.

Nightmare:  Mr. Farmanara?

Me:  Yes, and you?

Nightmare:  Don’t worry about my name; do you have Andy’s number?

Me:  Sir, I don’t know you but I do not have any relations with the Great Satan to have Andy’s number. Who are you?

Nightmare (with hesitation) : I am Salahshour.

Me (laughing) :  Are you kidding? You want to ask Andy about his song, “The beautiful must dance”?

Salahshour:  How did you know?

Me:  Do you have any mirrors at your house?

Salahshour:  You should first try to see if you can find a mirror that reflects the full size of your body!

This time, when I woke up, I immediately went to an emergency room in a hospital where the night nurse with my bad luck was listening to the song “the beautiful must dance”, and I lost consciousness.

When I regained my consciousness, the doctor asked about my age. My wife as usual answered before I had a chance to respond. He is Sixty five years and some. (‘some’ phonetically in Farsi is “andy”).

As I hear “andy”, this time I lost consciousness for good.

Press Conference: Ahmed Shaheed

Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran.20 October 2011

From Hila Sedighi’s defense in court:

….Now the judge is sitting across from me, and I don’t fear him or his authority. I am not afraid of the trial, the verdict, imprisonment, or solitary isolation. I am not afraid of any interrogator, threats, or any terror imposed. …They don’t seem to be aware that poets put aside sanity when they make love. I am not afraid of the rulers of this country. What I am afraid of is the dominant culture in this country. I am not concerned about politics, or which party or fraction will rule. I am concerned about the pleasantness of this land. I want freedom and peace for the people of this land, where a land without its people is valueless and dead. For this reason I am afraid of animosity and revenge. I am afraid of the ever deepening of these rifts, against your neighbor and being selfish. History repeats itself and perhaps predicting Iran’s future is not so difficult; What can be avoided is not the repetition of history but the taking root of our culture…
